Chinese people spent a reported $102USD billion overseas last year which is almost double from last years figures, this makes China the country with the top spending tourists in the world.
Chinese tourists spent more than 15 million US dollars than the next top list country Germany. China's economy is booming at the moment and that has created new wealth in the country, Chinese overseas tourism has also been boosted by relaxations on travel restrictions making flights and holidays more open to more people.
Popular overseas destinations for Chinese tourists include Cambodia, USA, UK, France, Thailand and South Korea and travel providers and hotels are acting quick to keep up with the demand of Chinese tourists.
Some leading shops and hotel chains are hiring native Mandarin speakers and also giving staff lessons on Chinese culture and traditions. Some hotels even provide special slippers to Chinese guests on arrival, world destinations are keen to capitalize on the recent boom in Chinese tourism.
Russian tourists spent approximately US$42.8 billion on trips abroad last year which is quite a surprising figure ranking Russia 5th on the list of top spenders. The Russian economy is very strong at the moment and this has resulted in more people travelling overseas to destinations like Turkey which have resorts popular with Russian tourists.
Other countries which featured in the list of the top 10 spenders include traditional big spenders like Germany (US$83.8 billion), the UK (US$52.3 billion), USA (US$83.7 billion ), France (US$38.1 billion ), Canada (US$35.2 billion), Japan (US$28.1 billion), Italy and Australia (US$27.6 billion).
Some people might be surprised to see the USA so high up on the list of countries with top spenders but in recent years figures show more Americans are travelling overseas to destinations like Europe instead of taking internal vacations in the States.
France (US$38.1 billion) and Italy (US$26.2 billion) are also in the top 10 list of tourist spenders but their figures are down on previous years which might be because of the problems with the economies in the Euro.
