All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response

All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response

All Hands Volunteers is a volunteer-powered disaster relief organization dedicated to Rebuilding Hope for people impacted by natural disasters all over the world.

Over the last 12 years, we have enabled over 39,000 volunteers to donate 200,000 days impacting 500,000 people worldwide.

Our Mission

All Hands Volunteers is a US-based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that addresses the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters by engaging and leveraging volunteers, partner organizations and local communities. Our vision is to demonstrate the power and value of volunteer service through the tangible work done, the hope it brings to suffering communities and the transformative experiences it provides for volunteers.

All Hands Volunteers strongly believes in the untapped power of the individual when driven by a desire to make a difference. While some relief organizations utilize volunteers, more often than not they only engage pre-trained volunteers or those from their existing networks or memberships, while others charge a fee for volunteering. All Hands takes a unique approach and accepts spontaneous volunteers from any background or faith, providing on-the-job training free of charge. This broadens our capability to help those in distress, offers a transformative experience to those who serve with us, and brings a wider pool of skills to the relief effort.

The best

I have volunteered with AHAH on three of their projects so far: Nepal 2015, Florida Keys 2017 and Texas 2018. They are a very well organised, transparent and hands on NGO that offer a unique and efficient way of helping local communities. The staff is always wonderful and the community is incredible: a real worldwide family where whoever isn't made for that kind of life or environment simply exits it if s/he has to, leaving a group of super motivated individuals that work hard and engage authentically with each other and the local people. I keep coming back and I consider them close friends!

Working in the U.S. Virgin Islands

This organization is a great opportunity to help people after a disaster. I actually went through Hurricanes Irma and Maria on Saint Thomas and withing two weeks I was working with this organization to clear homes and yards of debris. I worked over two months with All Hands and Hearts and it is a time that I will always remember fondly. It allowed me to not only help people but to meet a large diverse of people from all over the world at the same time. If you want to help people I highly recommend doing it through this organization.

Volunteer for Life

I first worked alongside All Hands in Tennessee during a wildfire deployment while working in AmeriCorps NCCC. I immediately fell in love with the organization's vibes and was very grateful of how much time they took to make sure we were trained and comfortable. After my term with AmeriCorps ended, I took a break but when Hurricane Harvey hit Texas (home state) I knew I had to do something. All Hands is such a wonderful organization to volunteer and work for. The transparency of the organization among volunteers, on-program staff, home office staff, beneficiaries, partners and donors is something I appreciate. I have volunteered with All Hands in Houston, Texas and the US Virgin Islands St. Thomas and I worked 5 months with them in Puerto Rico.

I would do it again and again and again!

Without a doubt the most amazing and rewarding experience of my life. I volunteered in Nepal. All hands and hearts are so connected to the community there that you can see how positively they are impacting the locals lives. The staff, the locals and the fellow volunteers were so friendly, welcoming and helpful that the place just felt like home. I would highly recommend to everyone to be part of this amazing cause.

The Best Month of My Life

I just got back from spending a month in St. John, USVI. The work that All Hands and Hearts is doing there is absolutely vital to the community. Over six months after Irma and Maria there is still so much destruction and devastation. The project in St. John is a very well run operation and anyone that goes down to volunteer will feel the same. The community of volunteers became my family and St. John became my home. I miss it dearly.

Amazing. Hands Down.

I've worked with dozens of different ngo's globally the last 15 years and am fundamentally impressed with All Hands and Hearts. I signed up for two weeks in St. John, USVI and ended up staying for 5 weeks. Many organizations say they are doing more than they are but this organization is a well-oiled machine doing far more than they broadcast. The need is great in St. John so please ease consider coming and working there. Its a truly special island and a truly amazing organization and experience.

Great organization!!!

I just spent a month in Nepal building schools with All Hands and Hearts. It was an amazing experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone! It’s a very honest and transparent organization from what I’ve seen. Besides the building we were training locals, teaching English, interacting with the local community, etc. very inspiring! They do an amazing job juggling the constantly changing conditions and turnover in volunteers. Very friendly, family-like atmosphere. Not sure about other programs but expect to be with a very young crowd (18-25). I hope that I can utilize my professional skills a bit more next time. Looking forward to the next program and definitely will be more involved with AHV! Cheers :)

2 1/2 weeks changed my life

The best 2 1/2 weeks that I have had in over a year. The staff in Puerto Rico were so kind and welcoming, I immediately felt like I was home. The work was tiring, but it was life changing. I met so many wonderful people, most of whom would call us All Hands and Hearts Volunteers “angels.” I wouldn’t have traded any of it for the world, it was such a magical time that I will remember forever.

Amazing experience!

Loved volunteering with All Hands and Hearts in USVI! This was my first volunteer experience in a disaster zone, and I felt safe and supported the whole time. From the moment I walked into communal housing until the moment I left was an adventure. Work hard, play hard environment and met the most positive people from all over the world. If there was a problem they found a solution for it and everyone helps each other out. I had no idea how to use any tools, but was shown with patience by team leaders and caught on pretty quickly. I loved the team meetings at the end of the day to regroup and talk about the daily accomplishments or issues that needed to be addressed. The meals were way above my expectations for a volunteer position. It was such a wonderful feeling helping those in need plus making new friends and learning new skills along the way. Will definitely be signing up again with All Hands in the future for another project!

Beste experience I ever had

All hands in Nepal was my home and my family for 2 weeks. I can't find the right words to describe how wonderful this experience was. All people where welcome, we could be in touch with the comunity, food was ok, and the force group experince was amazing. drinking beer at the fireplace after a working day, chat with people from all over the world! pure hapiness! Everything was extremily well organized, i couldn't ask for more! Thank you all hands for letting me be a part of this amazing job we are doing!
