Undertaking an internship with Project Everest Ventures exposes you to the experience of building a social enterprise in a developing country from a grassroots level, learning and applying your skills to something aimed at creating genuine impact for real people.

Where?

We operate across Malawi, India, Timor Leste and Fiji developing a range of different ventures, dependent upon the needs of the communities. Our ventures grow with each month of operation as new trekkers and leaders continue the work of previous teams, ensuring that a sustainable, long term impact is implemented.

What will I be doing?

As a trekker with Project Everest, you will live and work in a close-knit, multidisciplinary team to develop a particular social venture project in country for at least a one-month period. Your team will be collaborating and engaging with local communities through hands-on, education workshops, co-design sessions, face-to-face engagement, and the application of a range empathy-based design thinking methodologies. Throughout this process, you will be challenged to operate using lean processes and limited resources, to guarantee a proof-of-concept, a functional prototype, and/or facilitate the implementation of the solution within the community.

Our Ventures

We believe that social enterprise is the most effective way to solve the world’s most complex issues, so you will find social business in the foundation of each of our ventures. Some of these ventures include:
• Health Consulting;
Everest Recycling Solutions; and
• Solar Consulting

Recommended but not for everyone

The trip over to Fiji for FarmEd with Project Everest was interesting and useful for personal development, however, the way it was run did have some downsides.

It was great for personal development because it does create leaders, like they say. I realised how to be more confident afterwards because of the advice of the team leaders. They were valuable teachers and I respect them majorly.

However, the running of the trip was somewhat unexpected. It is definitely good for business students, as learning business skills is important in regular life. I was under the impression that it would be more relevant to my degree, like a few others I was working with. It was not relevant. This isn't a bad thing, but that should have been made clearer.

Ultimately, Porject Everest is amazing for personal development and general skill development, and especially for business students it is great. Go for these reasons and it will be 100% worth it.

Loved it so much I went twice

Going in to country with Project Everest was definitely one of the most valuable experiences of my life so far. I went to Malawi and Fiji and a trekker and I learnt so much about third world countries and how to develop products/services that have a real impact on the people. The best part about it was being in the country and being able to directly engage with the people that the product would impact and listening to the problems they are facing and directly developing a solution for these problems. Aside from that, I’ve made friends for life and learnt so much about cultures different from mine and also my own culture when I went to Malawi. Would highly recommend

Personal and International Development to the Highest Standard

If you want to leave your comfort zone, experience intensive self-development, participate in the effort to make REAL and SUSTAINABLE social change, develop your business skills, have fantastic experiences and meet some bloody brilliant people along the way; Project Everest Ventures should be your answer. I can't stress enough the extent to which my skills have developed through my time with PEV. The value the company has to offer you doesn’t stop after the 4 week internship. Through my journey at PEV I’ve Trekked (interned) on a water sustainability project, I’ve trained as a team leader, I’ve led a team on an agriculture/ food security project, I’ve group led where I’ve been in charge of 30 people overseas, and I’ve also had opportunities to assist in the training of new team leaders. There are also opportunities in sales and marketing, business consulting and business research and development. After joining the PEV community, I am now surrounded by the most fantastic, like-minded people and it is an incredible feeling.

Couldn’t recommend highly enough!

Project Everest is an amazing opportunity that I would recommend to anyone who wants to get out of their comfort, travel or create sustainable meaningful change. My month away in Timor Leste was honestly the best experience of my life. I had an absolute blast and developed so much both personally and professionally. The people within Project Everest really make the company what it is for me, they’re so welcoming, supportive and inspiring, and it is a pleasure to work and spend time with them.
