We will also continue to offer these as activities throughout the semester.
We cover various script styles such as Farsi, Diwani, Thuluth, Riq’a, Naskh and for each of these there are 2 levels of ability as outlined below.
Level 1: 12 hours (Beginners level):
Level 1 is a general introduction to Arabic calligraphy in all its forms and styles (such as Farsi, Diwani, Thuluth, Riq’a, Naskh) that will form the basis of the student’s understanding of the prestigious art of Arabic calligraphy. Students will be shown how to prepare and use traditional specialised calligraphy tools and materials and learn the formal rules that govern the practice.
Level 2: 12 hours (Intermediate level):
In our level 2 course students build on level 1 by introducing them to more advanced writing techniques and taking on bigger tasks. Students will be shown how to appropriately add Arabic Tashkil to their words and write full sentences in bigger letters as their final project.
Notes:
- Every participant will be provided with all the necessary tools and equipment; paper, ink & calligraphy pens (Reeds).
- A chance to create an individual calligraphic artwork will be given to the participants
- Arabic and English are the languages used in the workshop.
- Each lesson is 2 hours
- The workshop and calligraphy courses are held at Tahrir and Muhandseen branches monthly.
