We aim to help campers develop self-confidence, independence, social skills (emotional intelligence), creativity, activity skills, environmental awareness and appreciation, friendships, and healthy living skills while having FUN in a small, tight, true community set in a beautiful forest.
Kids also learn what most modern children have forgotten - how to just play and be a kid without television, video games, the internet, canned games, or social pressure. We are a fairly rustic camp, the cabins are open air and don't have any electricity (the bathhouses do have electricity and hot water).
This area gets little to no rain in the summer so, with the exception of the lodge, kitchen, office and living quarters, everything is outside. Counselors take their campers on an overnight once a week where they fall asleep looking up at the stars.
Unique amongst camps, our food philosophy focuses strongly on freshly prepared food versus heat and serve. We bake much of our own bread when possible and create most of our meals from their most basic ingredients. We strive to provide healthy, balanced, child-friendly, and great tasting food to our campers and staff.
We have been working over the past couple of years to use as much organic and locally grown food as possible and would like to continue developing contacts during the coming summer.
Recruitment
People can have a job, a career, or a calling. Camp Augusta is looking for folks who have a calling. Work, play, learn, struggle and grow in a vibrant community this summer facilitating the growth of children, yourself and others in the community. Just because you can get a job at any camp, doesn’t mean that you want a job at any camp.
Camp Augusta is different than most camps because we operate on a structure of flat hierarchy, consensus and intention with every action. We also have many activities that you are unlikely to find at other camps.
We are a small staff of about 50 that soon become family. Being such a close community, we are looking to know our potential staff as more than just a list of skills and certificates. To apply to Camp Augusta, we require no resumes or boxes to check.
Our initial staff application consists of six questions where we seek to know you better. The first question for example is "Who are you?" Please contact us if you are interested in spending your summer with us, complete the 6 questions with as much detail and insight as you can muster.
