We work with people living in the poorest and most marginalised communities - people whose situations, and whose stories, are seldom told or understood.
When a disaster such as a tsunami strikes a community, very often people are quick to respond by donating vital funds to our work to support those affected. But imagine a disaster situation that goes unreported, where no media cameras are on hand, and where those affected are living in a permanent state of emergency?
- Imagine a community where one in four people are HIV positive, and where the life expectancy rate is less than 40 years old
- Imagine a community where more than 53 per cent of all women and children suffer sexual and gender based violence at some point in their lives
- Or, imagine a community where access to the very basics in life that we take for granted ? water and sanitation ? just do not exist
For each one of these examples across the world, we are working hard to fund a project that will find a solution for those people affected.
To achieve as great an impact as we can in this area, we are working with the EU to leverage the maximum amount of funding available to support these projects successfully, and for the long term. Typically, an EU co-financed project will run for three years, and if we can provide between 10 and 25 per cent of the amount required, then the EU will provide the rest.
Simply put, we are able to multiply your donation, whether you are an individual or a company. And this happens at no extra cost to you.
