VOLUNTEERING - CHICKS volunteers come from all walks of life and volunteering is a fun and rewarding experience which stays with you forever.
CHICKS volunteers come from all walks of life and volunteering is a fun and rewarding experience which stays with them forever.
What does a CHICKS volunteer actually do?
The volunteers’ role is to join in with whatever fun and games the week may bring: To get wet, sing, dance, laugh, play games, stay awake, ride bikes, climb, swim and lots, lots more!!! Also, volunteers should be sensible and aware; help, listen, support, encourage and mediate.
Okay don’t panic… you won’t be alone. There will be other volunteers and 3 members of staff helping and supporting your efforts.
Your job is to be there for the children if they need it, and if they don’t!
* To give encouragement to a child who has low self-esteem.
* To listen to a child who may be scared or homesick.
* To calm down a child who has reached escape velocity in speed and volume.
* To understand that, generally, the child’s behaviour is a direct result of the environment they have just left. That is after all why they come to CHICKS!
Don’t worry about the activities being too strenuous or challenging. Nothing is compulsory. We want you to have a positive experience too! And remember, our holidays are designed with children in mind.
Are there any costs involved?
CHICKS’ holidays are completely free of charge to both the children and our volunteers! All food, activities and treats are paid for. The only cost to you is transport to and from one of our retreats or pick up points. We are, however, able to reimburse volunteers with up to £50 travel expenses.
