We spread life-changing love through our home for children with special needs, programmes and projects within a Roma community, advocacy, care and our hospice in Romania.

There are so many ways for you to get involved – both from right where you are and by volunteering in Romania itself!

If you’re interested in actually volunteering in Romania, we offer opportunities from Christmas volunteering to gap year volunteering on a 2-3 month trip.

Mission Trips

In 2005 we started our youth mission weeks in Romania where young people from the Ichthus church movement came out to work at our various projects working with some of the poorest families in the region. We quickly recognised the value of these trips not only to the communities we served but to the young people that were serving. It was a two way street!

2010 started our Health and Homes Programme where our Romanian team would assess a family’s needs and see if we could meet any of them through a practical project. From redecorating or totally renovating a room to building paths, fences, ramps or steps. This is now a core part of the trips, running consistently throughout the week.

Each year we support a number of different groups on their trips, from church youth groups to school teachers or mixed adult groups. We have seen that each visit has a profound effect on those individuals.

Gap Year

Not got a full year? Want to devote your summer to helping others and serving God? Don’t just talk about it, DO IT!

The Micro Gap is the perfect opportunity to put your faith into action, roll up your sleeves and get stuck in! This year could be your time to step out in faith and deepen your relationship with God. The Micro Gap is a combination of hands-on training, teaching, worship, fellowship and prayer all taking place at our projects in Romania.

On this 1-2 month trip, you will give you will fully experience everything we do. As part of the Micro Gap, you will do all of the following:

  • Work one-to-one with some of our more challenging young people at Casa Lumina
  • Plan and run the Hospice Casa Albert day centre
  • Run a summer long programme at Negustorului e.g. weekly Kids Church
  • Complete a practical project benefitting one of our projects or patients
  • Weekly teaching module on ‘Mission’
  • Receive weekly Romanian language lessons

As well as these, as you begin to get more familiar with how our projects work, you will help facilitate volunteer groups, taking more of a leadership role.
