We are a wildlife sanctuary and guest lodge based at the foot of the Hlumu Hlumu Mountains in Badplaas, South Africa.
We are the first and only primate rehabilitation centre in the Mpumalanga province.
As well as taking in injured and orphaned animals and rehabilitating them, we also provide a sanctuary to those animals that can not be released back into the wild. We also provide a home for unwanted exotic animals we have been the victims of the exotic pet trade.
Although animals come through our doors all year round there are different jobs that need to be done depending on the time of year.
October - February: This is our summer and also the Vervet Monkey Baby season, during this time we receive orphan baby vervet monkeys. Jobs include making up milk bottles, feeding the babies, daily weight checks, nursery shifts as well as feeding and looking after the other animals in the sanctuary.
April - August: This is our winter and it can get VERY cold! During the winter months we create fire breaks around the perimeter of our property using controlled burning. This time of year is also our lambing season and some young animals may still be on bottle feeds. We also use this time to build enclosures and carry out maintenance on the enclosure we have, as well as the daily feeding and care of the animals in the sanctuary.
We are looking for enthusiastic, friendly people who are happy to get involved with all aspects of the rehab centre
No two days will be the same ! Expect to be dirty and exhausted by the end of the day !!
