... through the provision of no-cost, high-quality healthcare and health education clinics in rural villages in northern Mexico (northern Sonora and Baja), El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras; and among migrant labor populations in the Coachella Valley of the southwestern United States (southern California). Since 1975 LMV has offered more than 230 short-term medical, dental, optometry, and other healthcare clinics, treating over 7,000 patients per year.
Volunteers Are Our Heart And Soul
At the heart of everything we do, our dedicated volunteers include pilots, healthcare professionals with specializations from pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, nursing, ophthalmology, and dentistry; Spanish language interpreters; and general volunteers.
Each of our program trips is run, start to finish, by volunteers: key local village contacts, US-based trip coordinators, equipment and supplies organizers, pilots for Mexico and Oasis trips, trip leaders, doctors (medical, dental, and optometry in greatest number), healthcare support specialists(registered nurses, registered dental assistants, dental hygenists, emergency medical technicians, etc.), healthcare educators, interpreters, general volunteers who do everything from equipment sterilization to generator maintenance to intake recordkeeping, photographers, and report writers.
I have so many wonderful memories. Each trip brings its own unique experience. ? VeNae Crabtree, RN
When you donate to the LMV cause, the fruits of your labor smile back at you. ? Bob Horvath, volunteer pilot
And all of that work is made possible by the leadership and support of the administrative volunteers in each chapter and at the central "corporate" level ? our chapter board members, fundraiser event organizers, newsletter editors, membership roster-keepers, and other members who attend meetings and support LMV in myriad ways.
What's it like to volunteer for LMV? You become a member of a closeknit group of incredibly dedicated, skilled, and generous people. Whether you volunteer to participate in a trip or to help on the administrative end here in the US, you will be part of a fast-paced, well-choreographed, supportive outpouring of time and energy. On trips, each volunteer pays his or her own travel expense for a four day or longer trip that involves hours of travel and days of hard, tiring, but immensely satisfying work. For most of the volunteers, a trip also involves days of unpaid vacation from their jobs at home; but the emotional and intellectual payoff is a reward rarely found elsewhere.
Volunteer now and become a part of the incredible team that is LMV.
