The Kentiga people have lived here for centuries, fishing the rivers and surviving on subsistence agriculture and forest products, now you too can experience this mysterious land and immerse yourself in its magical culture.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
You will become immersed in a fascinating tribal world, and while you discover a completely different way of life you will bring your international experience to the villagers, sharing perspectives and fostering cultural understanding and tolerance. Just your presence crosses a cultural divide, and offers the members of this remote community a genuine experience of another world.
The village has developed an exciting and innovative community project and now needs a team of international volunteers to bring interesting lessons and activities to its young generation. Different areas of focus are in conservation, eco-tourism, eco-forestry, agro-forestry, climate change, HIV/ AIDS, primary health, primary education (teaching and research), infrastructure development and social and cultural activities. However, teaching and education is always a priority and whatever skills and insights you can bring to your lessons will be greatly appreciated.
The community has a new school and now requires teachers and teaching assistants to help educate its children. Previously students had to travel hours to reach local villages that had school facilities, eventually they decided to build their own, and do some home tutoring! Its not just English tuition that is needed but anything you are interested in and passionate about yourself whether that's sports, science, music, maths, drama or dance.
Previous accomplishments have included painting a huge world map mural and rehearsing and producing a play. As well as fun in the classroom there is much opportunity to get involved in other community organisations. This project is not rigidly structured and calls for volunteers to really use their creativity and initiative to get involved and push things forward. The villagers are warm, hospitable people, eager to learn about the world beyond their secluded environment and to introduce volunteers to their gentle way of life.
