We are known for our volunteer/ voluntourism program which provides people of all ages a perfect opportunity to experience the arts and enjoy literature, theatre and cultural events while sharing their creativity with children.
Our prime focus is operating a dynamic children's library (La Biblioteca Interactive de Baños) and offering activities, workshops and events in all aspects of the arts. Each afternoon children line up at the door of our free children's library ready to read and eager to participate in activities created and led by volunteers. We bring the magic of theatre and cinema to the community and serve as a popular meeting place and cultural center in the evenings. Bringing together local people and international volunteers is an important part of our programs. During the seven years that La Biblioteca Interactiva has been open, almost 500 volunteers from over 30 different countries have enjoyed the Fundación Arte del Mundo experience.
Who can volunteer? People and/or groups of people over 18yrs, also families with children, single parent families are all welcome. (knowledge of Spanish will enhance your experience with us. Many of our volunteers choose to take Spanish at one of the fine schools in Baños.)
Commitment: two weeks volunteering at an average of 4 hours per day.
Accommodations: Comfortable rooms above the Biblioteca (including kitchen, bath and wifi internet) shared rooms for US$ 310 per month, single room $330, share a dorm room for $280. Weekly rates available. The rooms are bright and have wonderful views of Baños.
Cost: There is no fee for volunteering. As a volunteer you will be asked to live on the premises. This has proven to work well, we think, because you become a fully integrated member of the team sharing off time with the other volunteers. It also provides us with the funds we need to keep the program afloat. 100% of our volunteer room rentals go toward books, materials and covering our operating expenses. We do not ask volunteers for a fee. We do ask that you live on the premises and make an accommodation donation. Our application fee of $50 helps with office expenses.
Our programs rely on our energetic and committed volunteers, who are eager to be hands-on collaborators in projects aimed at children, youth and the community. Long term volunteers with arts, education or theatre management experience are always welcome.
