Enter an underwater world of magical marine life and witness conservation in action alongside the Perhentian Turtle Project and Perhentian Marine Research Station.

Calling all you mermaids to come and join our dive combination project as you get to be involved in turtle conservation and marine conservation. Join our team in vital sea turtle photo identification research by doing snorkel surveys and taking non invasive photos of these magnificent creatures.

You will get to learn and then conduct Photo Identification of green turtles around the islands each day. You will also help to train local snorkel guides and tourists. At night, you will put on your superhero suit and join our night patrols in order to deter poachers and if the stars are aligned for you that night, you might get to witness a mother turtle lay its eggs!

You will also get to dive and help our team to collect data on coral reefs and artificial reefs in the Perhentian Islands. The aim of the project is to first map and then assess the health of the coral reefs and other habitats around the islands. You will be based in the village allowing you to understand more about the local culture as you get the chance to interact and work with the villagers. Volunteers will also get to participate in our other projects in the program such as promoting recycling and composting to local dive centres and resorts.

If you have never dived before don’t worry, you can conduct your PADI open water with us and one of our local dive centre partners. We prefer to use the current dives centre to help share the wealth and build stronger bonds with the dive centres. We aim to work with the local community and not against them so we can all grow together!
