The Gili Shark Conservation Project is an international marine research center that host researchers, scientist and oceans lovers from all over the world. A home to people that want to make the world a little bit more beautiful.
Our mission is to protect and restore the coral reef environment within the Gili Matra Marine Recreational Reserve and to help to create the first recognized shark nursery ground in Indonesia by 2025.
To achieve our goal we conduct research using multiple research methods including; underwater roving video surveillance, roving survey dives, photographic identification, coral health index surveys, coral restoration, manta tow surveys, and land & marine based time-lapse projects. Through our weekly conservation classes at the local school and our Plastic Free Paradise Campaign we educate the local community and visitors of the Gili Islands about the importance of our ocean and what we can do to protect it.

About Our Program
We host participants from around the world for a minimum of 2 weeks. On average, people stay between 3-8 weeks to get fully involved and give back to the project. The ages of our participants are anywhere from 18-60! But the average is mid-twenties. We are all working very closely together and have a team/family-like atmosphere at the project. You will be a critical member of the team and may be in charge of various data collection projects depending on your interests, goals, and length of stay.
During your stay with us you will learn how to dive / improve your dive skills, become a PADI Scientific Diver, and a PADI Shark Conservation Specialist. We teach you everything you need to know about our research methods, how to set up and monitor a coral restoration project, how to analyze and input data, and much more!
We dive twice every morning (except on Sundays), so you will be doing eight dives a week. In the afternoons, you will attend workshops on our research methods, conduct data input and analysis, and attend community activies like beach clean ups, underwater clean ups and work on our Plastic Free Paradise Campaign.

What Is Included In Our Program?
The Gili Shark Conservation Package is a complete holiday package. You will receive:
· PADI AWARE Shark Conservation Distinctive Specialty Course
· PADI Scientific Diver Distinctive Specialty Course
· If you stay 3 weeks or more, your PADI Open Water Diver Course or your next level of certification ( PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course or PADI Rescue Diver Course).
· Coral ID book + Indicator Species Guide + Scientific Diver Equipment book
