Join an international team of volunteers and learn to dive in the warm waters of Dawasamu, while directly contributing to conservation efforts in the region.
On this program, you will be diving everyday while learning all about coral reef ecology and conservation issues facing tropical marine organisms and the communities that depend on them.
There is a possibility of seeing endangered species such as sharks, rays, humphead wrasse and turtles while participating in the program. While on dry land, you will spend time in the Dawasamu communities helping with our environmental education and sustainable livelihood projects.
Program Highlights:
- Enhancing your scuba diving skills with daily dives (weather permitting).
- Conducting underwater surveys in the warm waters of the Pacific.
- Complete GVI & PADI’s unique qualification, the PADI Coral Reef Research Speciality.
- See coral reefs up close and discover a myriad of fascinating marine creatures to study.
- Spending time getting to know the local community.
- Cultural immersion in the Fijian way of life.
Costs / Benefits
Since we opened our doors in 1998, we have spent over 65% of all funds directly on our projects. It is our mission to support field operations in the long term. Rather than abandon programs that recruit fewer volunteers we strategically invest from our fully staffed sites to help maintain our presence across the globe. The remaining 35% that is not directly invested in our programs covers the cost of volunteer recruitment, the operations of our head office.
