This massive geological tear in the Earth’s crust hosts some of the most impressive and iconic scenery seen anywhere in the world. Starting in Fort William, through mysterious Loch Ness and the finishing line in Inverness, you will make your way through 73 miles (117km) of stunning Scottish landscape by foot, canoe, sea kayak and bike. There is no better way to experience Scotland!

 

Itinerary

DAY 1: FORT WILLIAM TO LAGGAN - MOUNTAIN BIKE
Meet your group in Fort William at 10 am for an initial kit check before we start our adventure and head into the wild! Our journey begins on mountain bikes as we travel from ‘Neptune's Staircase’ to South Laggan along the Caledonian Canal and Loch Lochy. Bike along the towpath before crossing the swing bridge at Gairlochy and enjoy the stunning views of Loch Arkaig. A little further on we visit the spectacular Witches Cauldron that is a wonderful place for some wild swimming, so don’t forget to pack your swimsuit! Don’t worry, there are hot showers and tepees set up for your arrival at our campsite to warm up. In the evening enjoy some great food and local ales at the Eagle Barge Inn and take part in the ‘Great Chilli Challenge’ if you dare. Tonight’s all about good banter and relaxing under the star filled skies with your new mates.

DAY 2: LAGGAN TO FORT AUGUSTUS - CANADIAN CANOE
Today we take to the water and canoe from Loch Oich, one of the four main lochs in the Great Glen, all the way to Fort Augustus. En route we visit the 'Seven Heads Well' on the shore of Loch Oich, where your Guide will recount the gruesome story of internal strife among one of the largest clans in the Highlands during the 17th century. The Highland town of Fort Augustus situated right at the start of the mighty and monstrous Loch Ness is our home for the night. After a day on the water, there’s a chance for a well-earned local beer at Morag’s Lodge hostel bar. It’s time to chill on a sofa and find out what the Morag’s famous Highland hospitality is all about.

DAY 3: FORT AUGUSTUS TO DRUMNADROCHIT - KAYAK
Get ready for a stunning day kayaking on the waters of Loch Ness. You can’t imagine a more beautiful loch – this long stretch of mysterious water is surrounded by stunning mountains. We kayak past the dramatic ruins of Urquhart Castle which appeared in Star Wars -The Force Awakens and where the infamous monster has been spotted many times. The dark waters of Loch Ness remain cold all year round and come rain or shine this journey is spectacular. If you are lucky enough to be paddling on the loch when it’s a mill pond then you will enjoy crystal clear reflections of the surrounding mountains.

DAY 4: DRUMNADROCHIT TO INVERNESS - KAYAK AND HIKE
Today we’re back on the water! Tackle the remaining stretch of Loch Ness by kayak or canoe and enter Inverness in style - by the canal or River Ness. Enjoy this unique way to view the capital of the Highlands, and congratulate yourself for getting to the finishing line! You travelled through 73 miles of the most awesome Scottish landscapes and got close to our amazing wildlife. We finish our adventure in Inverness late afternoon. You’ll be tired, but not too tired for some refreshments at the Old Castle Tavern, where we recount the past few days before saying farewell to our trip mates after an epic 4 days.
