We have 23 classrooms, a multipurpose room, library, computer lab, cafeteria and outside eating area, and a football/basketball court. We are in the process of finishing up 4 more classrooms and the science lab.
We are a family oriented school which offers an individualized attention to our students. We have an American Curriculum which is completely in English, and we follow the international calendar which begins in mid-August and ends in mid-June. In December we get two and a half weeks of vacation, and we have one week off for Semana Santa.
We comply with the Ministerio de Educación in Guatemala with 180 school days. The school year is divided into 4 bimesters with report cards at the end of each one. The elementary classrooms are self-contained and middle school and high school use a combination block schedule. We have approximately 150 students. The school-day schedule for students is from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Teachers stay until 4:00 offering extracurricular activities and remedial classes. We offer bus transportation to those students who require it.
As a small but growing school we are constantly evolving and re-evaluating ourselves. We believe in continually seeking better teaching methods, improving our facilities and creating enriching programs for our students.
We offer students an education that will prepare them for entrance into top universities in the United States and across the world. Han al American School is committed to holistic and integral education and in preparing students to make contributions to a changing and challenging world.
