... and a top-notch summer staff which we call our “positive motivators and teachers” (PMTs).
We understand that the success of our summer camps depends, in part, on having the best summer staff in the Washington, DC area. During our extremely thorough hiring process, we seek exceptional teachers, counselors, role models and coaches with years of experience working in education and/or coaching. Our PMTs are teachers, college and graduate students studying or working in early childhood, elementary, secondary or physical education. We also provide internship opportunities for undergraduate or graduate students.
Our seasonal staff has a high return rate year after year as we continue to provide them with an opportunity to work in a fun, safe and positive camp environment with plenty of growth. In each Headfirst Camp we aim to “over-staff” our programs to provide a unique environment where campers benefit from individual and small group learning and instruction. For young-aged camp programs, we aim to maintain a counselor to camper ratio of approximately 5:1. For older-aged programs, the approximate ratio is 7:1. This low camper-to-counselor ratio helps us maintain a safe and supportive environment.
To join Headfirst as a summer camp employee, one must have prior experience working with children or in education, complete an in-depth employee application, be interviewed by our entire hiring team, complete our rigorous staff training and pass a full criminal background check.
