Herm is a working community dependent totally on tourism for its income. The island is open all year round and employs a mix of permanent residents and seasonal staff. Our main season runs from April to October when all departments on the island are open. From November to March the island is managed by a significantly reduced workforce.
Herm has a permanent community of 65 residents, including families with children. These people live and work on the island all year round, but during the peak season, the island population increases by up to 100 seasonal staff, who will mostly also be given accommodation on the island. We have a wide range of seasonal positions available in all departments. Start and finish dates vary, with some staff being taken on for the whole season and others just for part of it.
Herm is a beautiful haven of tranquility for both guests and day-trippers. As soon as you step off the boat you are immersed in a unique little island with no cars, stunning beaches, wild cliffs, nature trails, woodland walks and friendly faces. Our dedicated hospitality and housekeeping teams look after The White House Hotel, 20 Holiday Cottages, two campsites, The Ship Inn, The Mermaid Tavern, The Herm Shop, The Harbour Café and the two island beach cafés, ensuring all Herm’s visitors are well looked after and catered for. Our service, facilities, administrative and HR teams look after the island infrastructure, maintenance, land management, gardening, reservations, accounts, staff and general administration. There are certainly plenty of work opportunities, no matter where your talents lie!
