Itinerary
Day 1 Tel Aviv
Nestled on the Mediterranean Coast, the beaches and nightlife of Tel Aviv are as enticing as the city’s scrumptious dishes. Start this food adventure off with dinner at the famous Dr Shakshuka. Why not get your teeth into the traditional North African dish of poached eggs, spicy tomato sauce and veggies to which this popular establishment owes its name.
Day 2 Tel Aviv/Haifa
Head out to Tel Aviv’s Hatikva Quarter to sample some traditional Yemenite food before discovering the prominent winery region and agricultural settlement of Zichron Yaakov, the perfect place to sample a local drop. Continue on to Haifa for a stroll around the beautiful Bahai Gardens.
Day 3-4 Tiberias
Meander around the market at Mount Camel before visiting the Old Town of Acre and the Templar Tunnels. The seafood market in the Old Town is a real highlight – perhaps buy a fish from one of the local fishermen and savour the aromas as they cook it for you there and then. Afterwards, stroll around Nazareth and visit the Church of Annunciation. Take a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee before learning local culinary secrets at a cooking class in the Druze village of Buq’ata.
Day 5 Nablus
Head out to the city of Nablus, renowned for its delicious Arabic sweet, knafeh (buttery pastry filled with soft goats cheese and drenched in sweet syrup). Visit a tahini factory before meeting the chef for today’s cooking class. Explore the market stalls of the Kasbah, picking up the ingredients needed for your meal. Keep in mind that after lunch, we’ll be taking a tour of a knafeh factory – so save room for samples of this scrumptious treat!
Day 6 Bethlehem
Learn all about ancient terracing techniques and water systems in the village of Battir before venturing out to Bethlehem to visit the Church of the Nativity and the Shepherds' Field. Head out to Abu Zuz for a late barbecue lunch. For those who dare, take up the cleavers and learn how to mince meat the traditional way.
Day 7-10 Jerusalem
Begin the day with falafel and ka'ak before setting out on a full-day tour of Jerusalem. Visit the Mount of Olives, Gethsemane, Via Dolorosa, and the Holy Sepulchre (including the Golgotha, where Jesus was crucified, and the tomb where he was buried). Inhale the divine aromas of the spice market and stop by the Wailing Wall. Perhaps bake a loaf of challah bread with a local baker in Ein Karem, enjoy a delicious breakfast at Lina’s Hummos and lose yourself in the hustle and bustle, the sounds and smells of the vibrant Machane Yehuda market. The next day, follow the coast of the Dead Sea out to Masada. Jump on a cable car and admire the view on the ride up to Herod's magnificent mountaintop palace before having lunch in Qumran. No matter how much you eat, we guarantee you’ll still float when we head out for a dip in the Dead Sea after lunch. Drive back to Jerusalem via ancient Jericho – the oldest town in the world. Enjoy a final dinner with new friends and don’t miss the chance to try some Taybeh Beer – the first micro-brewed beer in the Palestinian territories.
