The program is managed by a local in Greece at the beautiful Crete Island, that aims to improve the situation of the animals living on the streets. Due to the amount of work that it takes to keep the program running, the help provided by volunteers is always greatly appreciated. Animals are only mediated when a family has the correct surrounding for a dog.
Before starting your volunteer work project, you will receive an orientation from our local staff. The local stuff is run by English speaking people. They are very happy to welcome volunteers from all over the world. Usually you will be in the program with other volunteers. The project is about minutes by bus.
Typical day
You will help from 6 am (during high season and climate) or 8/9 am (low season) till 2 pm or you can do the afternoon shift. Your schedule is flexible, depending on the volunteers. Like this, you will have time to enjoy your afternoon at the beach.
This program allows you to rescue and work with abandoned cats and dogs while helping them find a new home. Daily tasks may include:
- Feeding, and walking the animals
- Cleaning cages and equipment
- go in the garden with the dogs
- Drug administration and support with sterilization procedures
- Helping with rescue operations where animals are brought in from the street
- Food distribution for animals that live on the street
