L'Arche is an international movement of people with and without learning disabilities sharing life. We have communities in over 150 countries, including 11 in the UK, from Inverness, to London, to Kent.
Each community is made up of a handful of houses where our members live together, workshops, and an office. Our members with learning disabilities are at the heart of what we do, and our members without learning disabilities spend between fifteen and forty hours a week supporting them to lead full, vibrant lives.
L'Arche is a 'joyful rebellion': a noisy, cheerful, love-filled rebellion against a care sector that doesn’t always care, and a society that too often sees disabled people as less capable of relationship or creativity. We believe that care is a universal need and right - everyone wants to be cared for, and everyone deserves it.
Over fifty years of L'Arche in the UK, we have learned that care only works when it is mutual. Care in L'Arche is transformational, relational, and engages with people's bodies, minds, and spirits.
We are deeply inclusive of people of all spiritualities and faiths, including those who are spiritual but not religious, all ethnicities, classes, all identities, and we are committed to LGBTQ+ inclusion.
