This important project was created with the goal of supplying essential medical treatment to vulnerable residents in Quito. In this program, volunteers will be based in a Quito hospital, clinic or care facility, where volunteers will initially shadow doctors and other medical staff to gain an understanding of the day to day practice of medicine in Ecuador. Depending on individual education and experience, volunteers may then take part in various procedures, and/or assist local doctors and nurses in their daily duties.

This program allows volunteers to work in rotation, thus experiencing the different and often challenging aspects of the medical field. The Medical Volunteering and Internship Program is ideal for med and pre-med students, as well as medical professionals of all disciplines. Those who wish to volunteer on this program, but do not have relevant education and/or experience, may do so under the strict knowledge that they will likely be limited in their capacity to physically contribute, and in most cases will often find themselves acting more as an 'observer'.

Goals of this Project:

  • Save lives and make a real difference to the people of Quito
  • Provide free healthcare to those who need it most
  • Improve the health and long term wellbeing of the residents of Quito
  • Offer a teaching experience for medical students while also supplying a much-needed volunteer labour force
