This essential education program is located in Koh Samui - a stunning tourist island situated in the Gulf of Thailand. A playground for holidaymakers, it is not hard to see why the island is visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists every year.
However, poverty and destitution in this stunning location is rife, and its schools suffer from under funding and low staffing levels. Teaching materials are severely lacking and antiquated and computers are few and far between. Lesson plans and curriculum’s suffer immensely, but most importantly so do the students.
English is a prerequisite for many jobs in Koh Samui given its tourism market, which is why the ability to speak even the most basic English stands a better chance of these children breaking free from poverty. Volunteers on this wonderful program will be working directly with children to improve their English language skills – and by doing so – improving their chance for a brighter future.
Goals of this Project:
Provide English language skills and teach other subjects to vulnerable children in Koh Samui
Teach and interact with marginalized children in Thailand
Improve the future prospects of some of Thailand’s most impoverished children, and help them to break the poverty cycle
