What can I study?
A programme refers to a full degree programme which consists of several courses. A course is a stand-alone, single-subject module which may either be studied as part of a degree programme or on its own. A degree programme is studied over a set time period, usually one, two, three or four years. The duration of a course can be as short as a few weeks or as long as a few months of study.
Bachelor's degree programmes
We offer eight full Bachelor's degree programmes taught in English. Students must have completed their upper secondary school studies to be able to apply.
Master's degree programmes
We offer over 100 full Master's degree programmes taught in English for students with a Bachelor's degree. Students can in most cases apply in the final year of their Bachelor's degree, so long as they will have completed their Bachelor's degree before the start of the Master's programme.
Exchange studies
Students currently studying at a partner university that has a formal exchange agreement with Lund University or one of our faculties or departments may be nominated to come for exchange studies over a period of one or two semesters at Lund University.
Study abroad
Students whose home university does not have a formal agreement with Lund University for exchange can instead consider our Study Abroad Swedish Language programme for a period of one or two semesters. Universities, national scholarship programmes and organisations can also arrange tailor-made Study Abroad packages for students to study at Lund University. This could include a summer course, or a semester or year-long study period.
Stand-alone courses at Bachelor's and Master's level
We offer a range of single-subject, stand-alone courses at Bachelor's and Master's level. Some Bachelor's courses are "introductory" level and are open to all students who have finished upper secondary school studies. Other Bachelor's courses are "continuation" level and are suitable for students who have previously studied the subject at Bachelor's level. Master's level courses are suitable for students who have previously studied the subject at Bachelor's level. Please note that a number of these courses are only available for students admitted to a full degree programme or for students coming through a formal exchange agreement.
MOOCs and distance learning
We offer a small selection of distance learning courses and one full degree programme taught by distance. These studies have admission requirements and a formal admissions process. We also offer Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) which are open to anyone interested in the subject. These courses are free and have no admission requirements.
PhD Studies
Students seeking to continue with PhD studies can apply for fully-funded PhD positions (i.e. doctoral studentship or a doctoral study grant) which are advertised by the relevant department within a faculty. Advertisements for PhD positions are posted on our job vacancy pages. Self-funded students can enquire about PhD positions by contacting the relevant department directly. Please note there is no set admission period or application process for PhD studies. You follow the instructions in the specific announcement for the PhD position and the instructions of the individual department.
Commissioned education
Companies and organisations can request tailor-made courses for employees and we also offer a selection of open admission courses designed for professionals working with specialised topics.
Swedish language
We offer a Study Abroad Swedish language programme, designed for students interested in studying the Swedish language as a full-time course load.
Admitted students coming for other types of studies at Lund University (e.g. an exchange or a Bachelor's or Master's degree programme) are given opportunities to learn Swedish as part of our orientation/introduction activities and in cooperation with the Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) classes.
Study Abroad Swedish Language Programme
In addition, we offer close to 200 degree programmes at Bachelor's or Master's level that are taught in Swedish. International students who are proficient in Swedish may apply for education taught in Swedish if they meet all requirements for admission, including Swedish language knowledge.
