We offer global health internships, medical elective rotations, and international volunteer opportunities for those seeking a valuable and memorable experience working in the Central American/Caribbean country of Belize. You have the option of splitting your medical electives placement across different hospitals to achieve your goals.
Once you apply, we will review your details and respond back to you with an acceptance decision within 7 days. If you are accepted into the program, you will be assigned a program adviser who will help you organize the specific details of your trip. You will also receive an official letter from the Health Institution’s residence Chief of Staff verifying your acceptance to the program.
Our program is based in San Ignacio, the diverse capital of Belize’s Cayo District, located 2 hours from Belize City. The town is made up of mix of creole, Maya and mestizo populations, ensuring a rich cultural exchange between volunteers and locals. Your placement program will include a homestay with a local family in downtown San Ignacio, giving you a unique insight into everyday life in Belize. There will also be ample opportunities to explore the ruins, jungles, beaches, and surrounding areas of Belize.
Types of programs
The people of Belize face limited and ineffective healthcare options. Volunteers are usually based in local clinics and hospitals where basic clinical skills are gained by observing and assisting doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals. Volunteers are also invited to collaborate on public health education strategies, contribute to research work, and work on rural outreach and field clinics.

Our placement packages are designed to give you security and peace of mind at a price that’s superior to organizing the entire experience by yourself. Placement organization, accommodation, adventure weekends and local overseas support are all included in program fees. Please note that the prices quoted are for six week placements and rise incrementally depending on the duration of your stay.
