Volunteer tasks
You will start your volunteer adventure at Lilayi Elephant Orphanage near Lusaka where you will spend your first seven days.
Here, you and your team members will be involved in biodiversity surveys in Lusaka National Park, vegetation and transect surveys, identifying and tracking wildlife through spoor and scat observations and different community outreach projects. The second week takes place in Musa Camp, located in awe-inspiring Kafue National Park. Here you will meet the rangers and discover how the anti-poaching units operate. Moreover, you will help complete biodiversity surveys and carry out community outreach projects.
The third week is also spent in Kafue National Park, at the programme’s Release Facility. Biodiversity surveys, community outreach projects, learning about our partner’s elephant rehabilitation and release programme, training in elephant behavioural observation studies as well as staff capacity building belong to the typical volunteer tasks.
At the end of their stay, volunteers will be driven to Livingstone where they can experience the wonders of the majestic Victoria Falls before returning home equipped with an incomparable insight into the thematic areas of community outreach, wildlife rescue and resource protection.
Note: Due to several factors, your daily schedule is always subject to fluctuations and cannot be 100% predicted. Furthermore, the project follows a hands-off policy – this means that volunteers are not allowed to touch the elephants.
