We are people who live and work on the island of Nosy Komba and have for many years. We are small business owners that came together to form the Nosy Blue Project with what we can offer: a hotel, boats, knowledge, love and pride of the area and of the marine wildlife.
Our mission is to educate the local population of what is at stake in preserving their environment. We hope that the data we collect and share with the Malagasy government, will raise awareness of the importance of safeguarding this incredible biodiversity, which is a true cultural heritage of Madagascar.
Noticing the need for conservation, we decided to put our efforts together to construct the Nosy Blue Project. Our main goal is to create protective areas to preserve the enchanting environment with all it’s entities, but we need your help in doing so.
When participating in the Nosy Blue Project, you will record data on whale and dolphin species, along with whale sharks by taking treks 4-5 days a week aboard the Safari Baleine boat. Other days are spent conducting beach cleans, engaging with and educating local villages on the effects of marine protection and simply enjoying the beautiful environment.
Our project focuses on the waters lining the northwest area of Madagascar. Accommodation is on the remote island of Nosy Komba, a volcanic isle with the luxury of having no cars, roads or typical electricity. You are welcomed at the lovely Floraly Komba where you will be trained how to properly record data, perform awareness presentations, become part of the community and invest your energy further in marine conservation.
The Nosy Blue Project is in its early stages and is in need of your help to collect this vital data and help build a solid foundation. You'll find that our staff is greatly invested in the community as the project was was created by natives and residents of Madagascar that have worked for years on the island providing tourists with the life changing experiences that Nosy Komba and the area’s marine wildlife has to offer. Noticing the need for conservation, we decided to put our efforts together to construct the Nosy Blue Project. Our main goal is to create protective areas to preserve the enchanting environment with all it’s entities, but we need your help in doing so.
After spending 2 weeks or more researcing and falling in love with Nosy Komba, you are invited to take part in our 14 days Extended Study program. This will be aboard the sailboat "Vingila", equipped with a small crew that provides extensive knowledge of the area, marine wildlife, delicious food, breathtaking sunsets, and an adventurous and unforgettable experience.
We will be delighted to see you soon!
***We are open to different possibilities involving marine conservation so, if you wish to complete a project for your studies during your placement, please let us know in advance and we can discuss.
