Based in Thailand, helping people from Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Nepal. Openmind Projects was born in 2001 when Sven Mauleon from Sweden partnered with Gaweechat Joompaula from Thailand to help using IT to improve education in poor villages in the poor northeast Thailand.
A divide exists between those with and without access to good education. Young people from poor regions – such as Isan in Northeast Thailand, where Openmind Projects is based – have limited access to good schools. Resources in village schools are scarce. As a result these young people have to look for low paid jobs in factories and tourism.
Openmind Projects wants to bridge the divide where support is needed most: in rural areas. Ecotourism provides a growing opportunity in rural areas to earn an extra income and to protect wildlife and habitat. Openmind Projects supports these initiatives.
Since 2001, Openmind Projects supports schools, conservation and health projects in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Nepal. Our local trainee program where young people from our projects can stay at our Center in Thailand to learn English, IT and other skills skills with overseas volunteers has helped many young people.
