These elephants have been rescued from the tourist trade, where they have been forced to take tourists on rides or have been performing in shows. Thankfully, that life is now over, and they can live out the rest of their days in the freedom of the sanctuary.
Elephants are hungry creatures - they eat about 5% of their body weight each day! Volunteers are crucial to keep this sanctuary running, and to keep these elephants happy. This does involve a lot of food preparation and feeding, and the reward is being close to these elephants as you work.
Volunteer tasks include:
- Harvesting food for the elephants
- Preparing food
- Feeding the elephants
- Bathing the elephants
- Walking the elephants
- General enclosure maintenance
- Making dung paper
- Cleaning out the large enclosures
You will be living in the heart of the sanctuary, surrounded by the calls of the animals. You will share a room with other volunteers. Three delicious meals are provided each day.
You will enjoy one day off per week to go exploring what the locality has to offer. You are just 30 minutes from the beach and the local towns have night markets, which are fantastic to explore.
