PMGY offers 2-week to 3-month volunteering opportunities in the capital of Quito at an altitude of 2,850m above sea level. PMGY Volunteers apply their time in a public hospital in Quito. The project is at Hospital Pablo Arturo Suarez; one of the few care centres offering free healthcare for the people in and around the capital. This is the second biggest public hospital in Quito. The hospital provides volunteers with the opportunity to join on 8 different wards including internal medicine (speciality departments), paediatrics, gynaecology, occupational therapy, trauma, out-patient and surgery consult department. Volunteers on this project are not required to have any medical education, but advised to have some form of experience whether in a community care setting or clinical volunteering hours.
Programme Fees to volunteer in Ecuador start as low as £420 for a two-week placement. Included within this fee is:
1st & 3rd Sunday of every month
- Be at least 18 on your programme start date
- Provide us with a clean criminal background check
- The ability to speak fluent English
- The ability to speak basic to intermediate Spanish
