The charity is based in Northern France and provides varied education and play sessions, 6 days a week, to some of the 250+ displaced children living in dire conditions there. For many of the children, this is the only service that they access and a vital opportunity for them to be in a safe space in which they can relax, play, escape, learn and explore. Our objective is to support our students development, provide psycho-social care and help mitigate the effects of trauma through play and learning - all whilst having fun!
Founded in 2018, Project Play is a growing charity that has already seen the positive effects of its service. It is an exciting time to be joining the friendly and hard-working team as we continue to consolidate, improve and grow our service. Because we are a small team there are many opportunities to develop your own teamwork, problem solving and leadership skills whilst gaining experience of working with children.
Successful applicants will live and work with our wonderful close-knit volunteer team. We spend the mornings planning sessions and resourcing. In the afternoons, we head out in the field to conduct sessions which include education, play, sports and craft. We then come home and debrief before heading home for an evening. We are lucky enough to work alongside some other organisations in Calais and are part of a fantastic community of volunteers.
The role is voluntary and therefore unpaid. However, the charity does support volunteers with accommodation, travel and some meals.
We require all our team members to:
- Have experience working with children and young people in a paid or voluntary capacity
- Be over the age of 18
- Be able to provide a DBS check (we can facilitate this for you if necessary)
- Make a minimum commitment of two months
- Be dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and families
- Have a strong work ethic and ability to work in a close-knit team
- Be committed to safeguarding the vulnerable people in our car
