Many schools in Africa are understaffed and poorly resourced, but as a volunteer you can help to improve the skills of young children by assisting in their lessons.

You don't need to be a teacher to join one of our Teaching projects. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and levels of experience; there is no requirement for any qualification or experience. You don't even need to speak the local language!

Most volunteers will start their placement by assisting a local teacher, usually helping with conversational skills and correct pronunciation. Volunteers may even get the chance to teach their own classes once they feel confident and have built up a rapport with the local teaching staff.

In some destinations volunteers can choose to help out in other subjects and extra-curricular activities, such as music and sports. As well as teaching lessons, volunteers may assist with lesson planning and marking work.

We also welcome professionally qualified teachers for volunteering placements - this includes teaching English as well as other subjects, such as science, PE and special needs. These professional volunteering placements allow you to put your skills and expertise to the best use not only through teaching children but also through exchanging knowledge and ideas with local staff.
