Nestled between two hills on an ancient spice route, Reinventing Roots hosts courses and volunteer opportunities in sustainability, namely, Permaculture. These courses bring together local, ancient knowledge with the most progressive Permaculture techniques. Students study and design their own projects, implementing them in tandem with local Bedouin residents in their private gardens, homes or schools throughout the village bringing empowerment to these underpriveledged communities.

Our Mission:

  • To restore heritage and re-learn cultures of land-based peoples
  • To renew land which supports indigenous lifestyle
  • To provide economic and social empowerment to marginalized or underprivileged people-groups with a specific focus on the indigenous.

Strategy:

Reinventing Roots hosts programs which enable community members to practice and teach cultural crafts and skills. This helps to encourage the continuation of heritage-especially aspects of cultural heritage which are in-tune with the local environment and climate. These multi-faceted programs are open to the public on an international scale giving participants a peek into the last glimpses of land-based lifestyle. This interaction between the local community and the international community brings together a dynamic blend of ancient knowledge and modern ecological innovation.

Reinventing Roots programs provide natural building and permaculture consultation to their host communities without the burden of financial investment with dynamic programs and courses designed for international and local participants.  Through active dialogue and observation, the ecological and economical needs of the community are identified. Each course is structured around the teaching of specific skills needed to meet these needs and systems are then implemented through student's hands-on learning.

Economic development takes place as members of the community offer their skills or teaching abilities to both pass on knowledge of the cultural heritage and to provide logistical support in areas such as catering, tours, project management, housekeeping/site management, lodging, accounting and more. As a team of leaders arises, the community may choose to be trained and to take responsibility of these programs and run courses within their area as an autonomously functioning business.
