​Scales Nature Park is just off Highway 11 in the township of Oro-Medonte. We are located just south of Orillia, about 20 minutes north of Barrie, and 1 hour from Toronto.

Assistant Project Coordinator
Help with conservation project coordination including personnel, and equipment.

Education Coordinator
Coordinate and present educational events both on and off-site.

Maintenance Leader
Lead staff and volunteers in activities to support and build our conservation capacity.

Habitat and Maintenance Technician
Maintain trails, habitats, remove invasive species and other outdoor tasks.

IT/ Programmer
Create software tools to assist with conservation efforts.

Volunteer Coordinator
Engage local and international volunteers, aide in onboarding and creation of positive environment

Lodging House Manager
Manage accommodations and meals of staff and volunteers within our operations.

Community Engagement Specialist
Liase with community members about how they can become involved in conservation.

Educator/ Reptile Keeper
Conduct public education activities and care for the animals used in programs.

Administrative Assistant
Perform office tasks to support our efforts to conserve wildlife.

Senior Conservation Technician
Conduct field work and other conservation activities.

Conservation Technician
Conduct field work and assist with the coordination of staff and volunteers.

GIS Technician
Create maps and analyze data for project reporting and permitting.

Animal Care Specialist
Care for the largest native collection of reptiles and amphibians in Canada.

Media Specialist
Promote activities, field projects and nature centre info on social media. Operate virtual studio.

Day Camp Leader
Plan and lead unstructured nature play for children.


Volunteer

Each year we welcome community members, students, international travelers and more to the Scales Nature Park team. We value the many contributions of volunteers towards our conservation efforts. 

On-site volunteers must live at our facility. Preference will be given to volunteers who can commit to longer stays. We are happy to assist with arrangements for international volunteers! 

Areas of Focus

Field Work incl. wetland surveys, reptile monitoring, data collection. If you are specifically interested in doing field work, please look into our Turtle Bootcamp here.

Maintenance/Construction incl. firewood splitting and stacking, trail and lawn maintenance, snow removal, invasive species management

Animal Care incl. enclosure cleaning, animal feeding, equipment sanitization

Education incl. talking to public at events, giving tours onsite, creating visual materials

 

International Volunteers

Scales Nature Park has a long history of hosting international volunteers. Improve your English, immerse yourself in Canada’s amazing natural world, and enjoy living in an exciting environment! Volunteers can complete school internships or other placements with us. If needed, we have French-fluent staff, and occasionally other languages. We can assist with immigration requirements such as work permits, visas, etc. if necessary.


Herpetology Experience and Research Program

The Herpetology Experience and Research Program (formerly the Herpetology Internship Program) is a unique and immersive experience designed for post-secondary students or recent graduates to enhance their career prospects in the field of herpetology. Practical experience is blended with classroom instruction to build skills that are critical to success in this field.
