To ensure the success of these schools we also sponsor teacher trainings and foster a sense of ownership among local parents. None of our work could be completed without our amazing World Changers. World Changers are the high school students that spend their school vacations travleing to one of our locations and helping the community to build a new school or playground. The students spend months before their trip raising the funds for the school and then work and interact in the community for nine days.
School the World transforms lives by working to make quality education accessible to all children and families living in rural villages of Central America. We believe education is a vital component to alleviating poverty, increasing gender equality and promoting economic sustainability. School the World works in conjunction with local governments and parents to create a safe space for children to learn and thrive. Through our teacher training program and parental engagement, we ensure that the school is important to the surrounding community and its impact will be longlasting.
School the World has a new initiative, Power of Play, that emphassizes the positive benefits of physical play on students' education, social development, and the development of other life skills. Our trained staff facilitate playground games that are conducive to the development of these skills and that also combat the gender inequality very prevalent in these regions. Some of our trips now include the construction of a playground in addition to a school.
School the World is also committed to fostering a passion for service and global responsibility through our service learning trips. On these trips groups of high-school students spend nine days in one of our communities interacting with natives and working to make the school or playground a reality. For months prior to the trip, the students raise the funds that will be used in the community towards the school. These students make the real difference, and for that we call them World Changers.
Since its founding in 2009, School the World has built thirty-eight schools, enrolled 4,000 students, trained 157 teachers, and built 207 classroom libraries. We are very excited to keep expanding our reach and to continue changing the lives of hundreds of children, their families, and their communities. With the help of our generous donors and World Changers, we are able to make a difference.
