Our ethos is to treat refugees like people and move past stereotypes of victimisation and romanticisation. Our team consists of 11 team members on the ground, and a community of volunteers who support us from home.

We give refugees and asylum seekers across Northern Greece the opportunity to develop urgent skills needed for life in Europe. We do this through educational activities in three key areas:

Language Learning
Through English and Greek classes delivered by qualified teachers and tailored to the needs of refugee adults and children.

Integration
Through our community-engagement activities that give refugees and locals the chance to meet.

Youth Well-being
Through our unique Scouts program that takes children out of the camp and into local community.

Get Involved

As a small, grass-roots project, we are dependent on the support of others. There are many ways you can contribute to our work on the ground or from your home. Have a look and get in touch with your ideas.

Knowledge Sharing
If you are a qualified teacher, Scout leader, youth worker or expert in the field of non-formal education, refugee education and/or integration, you can donate your time, insights and experiences to help us run our programmes better.

Specialised Trainings
If you have the relevant expertise but are unable to commit to long-term volunteering, you can donate your skills in the form of short, on-the-ground trainings for our staff, students and/or community.

Remote Volunteering
Do you have some spare time, and want to help us from home? Check out our vacancies for “Social Media Specialist“, “Grants Officer” and “Fundraising Officer“, and join the team remotely!

Support Our Team
Are you a trained psychologist or psychiatrist? Would you like to support members of our team in copping with difficulties faced when working in this environment? Send us an email to us.

Volunteering
Do you have some time, and a lot of energy and creativity? Check out our vacancies and come join the team on the ground!

Internship
If, because of your degree or for any other reason, you would like to have your period at Second Tree credited as an internship, just apply to the volunteer vacancy that you’d like to respond to and mention this aspect. We have agreements with several universities across Europe, and in many other cases these agreements can be developed on an ad hoc basis. Bear in mind that the passion and motivation that we expect from the people coming as interns are the same that we expect from volunteers. Our main focus is trying to improve the lives of the people that live in the refugee camps here. In other words, people come here to work. If they can also get recognition by their university/job for this, that’s great.
