Shallow Waters is a marine conservation NGO working toward a community led coral reef management programme on Koh Sdach island, located just off Cambodia’s south west coast.
We offer marine conservation expeditions and student internships to international volunteers in order to fund and execute our project in the long term. We are working alongside resident fisherman, academics from the Royal University of Phnom Penh, local and international NGO’s and the Fisheries Administration, to develop a marine resource management programme for the Koh Sdach archipelago.
Our expeditions involve practical training in PADI Scuba Diving, the Emergency First Response course and scientific survey techniques and volunteers also take part in community projects including English and snorkelling lessons for local children. We have developed our expeditions and internships in order to give volunteers valuable practical skills that truly contribute to conserving the marine ecosystems of the Koh Sdach archipelago and their personal career development, and an unforgettable life experience on a beautiful tropical island.

Volunteer Support:
We offer pre-travel advice for Visas, insurance, transport and training queries. and send our expedition manual, training materials and a recommended reading list to volunteers pre-departure. We also feel strongly about building a network of past volunteers and offer incentives for students to continue working with us after their time in Cambodia, please visit our Scholarship page for more information: http://www.shallow-waters.co.uk/internships/scholarships/
Volunteer Safety:
We train all our volunteers in the 'Emergency First Response' course as part of the expedition programme. This ensures everyone has a basic knowledge of emergency protocol and lifesaving skills. As we operate from a remote location we always aim to have a trained medical professional on base, emergency medical equipment and have evacuation procedures in place for both diving and non-dive related emergencies.
