Be trained by our Marine Biologist as research assistants and get hands on experience in the field by partatking in the many research projects we run - from ethical angling, tagging to genetic sampling, catch, tag and release snorkeling surveys in our local kelp forests, dorsal fin identification data collection and analysis - how to interpret the data and enter it into our various data bases.
We are based in the famous Great HWite Capital of the world - Gaansbaai, Cape Town. Unfortunately due to the rapidly declining number of Great White Sharks in our waters - we cannot be sure how much longer we will hold this unique title!
The decline in Great White numbers has resulted in the influx of many smaller Shark species - in the absence of the ultimate apex predator - the face of our unique local oceanic-ecosystem is changing - for better or worse, remains to be seen.
We conduct our critically needed research programs in collaboration with Stellenbosch University, with the ultimate goal of obtaining Government legislated protected status for our vulnerable and over exploited Shark species - Join us as research assistants and help us make a difference to our oceans while furthering your career with hands on experience in the field - Adventure, Conservation & Education await!
Our volunteers do not partake in menial labour - our comfortable accomodation overlooking the ocean is fully kitted with wifi, satelite TV and all the services you need to be comfortable and focus on the important scientific work you will be doing while with us.
