Shaw Trust is the UK's largest voluntary sector provider of employment services for disabled people, and one of the largest providers of independence skills. We have approximately 1200 staff in more than 200 locations, helping about 60,000 people a year.
Shaw Trust delivers social purpose in a thoroughly businesslike way. We are a private-sector organisation without shareholders. All Shaw Trust surplus is used to help people get back to work and into independence.
We will interview all disabled candidates who meet the essential/minimum criteria. Our managers check at least once a year with employees that our practices are not disabling them from developing and using their abilities. At the very least, "reasonable adjustments" are made to retain employees who develop new impairments and give new recruits access to our jobs.
Employer of Choice
Shaw Trust has an Equality & Diversity Policy and Equality & Diversity Group with action plans, supported by a National Equality & Diversity Adviser
Code of Conduct for staff, clients, employer partners and sub-contractors. The Code asks them all to challenge discriminatory behaviour. We have special sections in our Management Toolkit explaining what makes up discrimination and harassment, and what to do about it. We also have a confidential helpline for people suffering from harassment, bullying or illegal discrimination. We do regular employee surveys to check for harassment and discrimination, and act on the findings. We run Equality & Diversity Training regularly.
