It also marks its international importance. With only being 21km (13miles) long and 7km (4.3miles) wide it is one of the smallest national parks on Sri Lanka.
The vegetation is a tropical wet evergreen forest, some of the 211 wood trees grow up to 35-50m (115-165feet). Sinharaja Rainforest has a high vegetation density, around 24’000 individual plants per hectare.
Mammals like leopards (about 15), elephants (only 3 are left, others were resettled), wild cats, monkeys and smaller squirrels live in the forest. It is as well a home for a big diversity of amphibians, insects, fishes and reptiles. 21 different species of snakes including pythons and vipers have been spotted in the forest.
We offer various trips, activities and volunteer opportunities.
