Sprout is a small non-profit organization based out of NYC. We arrange vacations each year for adults with special needs, traveling to numerous destinations in the US, the Caribbean and Europe. No previous experience necessary. Responsibilities include: safety monitoring, providing physical and emotional support, activity planning, budgeting and enhancing fun.
We are looking for enthusiastic, caring, fun-loving and responsible volunteers, called leaders. No previous experience is required; Sprout will provide the necessary training and a 24 hour support staff available by phone.
Leader teams of 3 are responsible for the overall safety and enjoyment of their group of 11 participants while on a Sprout trip. Duties include safety monitoring, providing physical and emotional support, activity planning, budgeting and enhancing fun. The work is hard yet immensely rewarding as you gain insight into your own abilities and interact with some wonderful people.
Volunteering for Sprout has a lot of advantages. First of all, participating in our program is free, and all trip-related expenses (food, activities and accommodation while on the vacation trips) are covered by Sprout. Also, our leaders who do not live in the NYC area are provided with dormitory-style accommodations between trips.
Finally, you will get to travel to places that you otherwise might never visit. You will bear a lot of responsibility, together with other leaders from all over the world, and have opportunity to increase your leadership skills.
Requirements include:
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Speak fluent English
- Participate in an interview
- Provide references
- Willingness to complete necessary background checks
- Participate in various training sessions
- Comfortable interacting with people with developmental disabilities
- An ability to add to the participant’s enjoyment while on the trip
