We are always looking for more volunteers (both short-term and long-term) in areas such as teaching English to the local kids and environmental projects.
The 3 key areas in which we aim to promote awareness are education, environment and community.
To date, our focus has largely been with the young people in the local community, in helping them to learn English by providing classes throughout the year. We also offer 'curso vacacional' during the summer, where students able to continue attending classes at the volunteer house, and those with high attendance are then invited along on an annual trip; in 2016, this meant a trip to the Galapagos Islands (supervised by our volunteers)! As a teaching volunteer, your main goal is to enable the students to feel comfortable and supported during their education with us. We therefore don't ask that you have professional experience, but instead that you are willing to devote yourself wholly to this cause.
Our environmental volunteers have worked on various projects over the past few years, with a key focus on researching the local environment in order to establish how best to preserve and enrich the local nature. We have built a greenhouse which is used by both volunteers and the local community to grow crops, and are future goals include the construction of an aquaponics system. We also carry out projects to involve the children, mainly our P.E.E.K program in which they are given donated cameras to go out and take pictures of the local environment.
Overall, our goal is to promote a sustainable community in which the people feel fulfilled and are able to reach their highest potential. As a volunteer organisation, we also hope that those who come to work with us feel empowered and able to explore their creative sides while making a difference.
