Our Internship in Germany program is designed for those who are interested in obtaining practical experience according to their fields of interest and skills. It is also for those who want to gain a better understating of the refugee situation in Halle city and learn about how refugees are integrating into German society.
The internship includes four kinds of activities:
The First Week (Learn German)
During the first week of the program, participants will be learning the German language. Participants will attend an intensive German course for 20 hours. All needed materials for this course will be provided. This course fits college and university students who are looking for a cultural introduction to begin their internship in Halle, Germany.
The Second Week (Refugee Affairs)
In week two, participants will engage in open discussions, presentations, and lectures regarding the refugee situation. During this time, participants will learn about the life of refugees in Germany and how they are adapting to a new society. The information presented will come from people who have experience working with the refugees in different German cities. In addition, during this week participants will visit sites and places in the city of Halle, where they will get to know the history and landmarks of the city.
The Third Week (Local Visits)
During the third week, interns will visit different famous places in Halle in order to further learn about the history of the city. In addition, interns will be able to meet and interact with locals, refugees, and families who come from various countries all around the world.
Fourth Week (Community and Educational Activities)
Before week four begins, participants will be given a lecture about organizing community activities for those that reside in Halle city. During this week, the Excellence Center in Europe’s staff will help you plan and lead activities that match your interest. For instance, if you have experience in the media field, you may wish to organize media-related activities. If you are a skilled musician or music teacher, then teaching music to students could be a possible community activity that you lead.
The last step in the internship is to participate in a variety of educational activities that the Center organizes for the community in Halle (locals and refugees). Interns will be organizing fun and educational activities, as well as assisting teachers in English classes. Moreover, participants will be asked to write articles about the activities the Excellence Center organizes, the life in Halle, and the life of refugees in Germany.
