The Tennis Camp at Dexter, for boys and girls ages 7 through 14, offers a full range of instruction and training for those with significant tournament experience, to those with little or no tennis background, and all skill levels in between. Every week our tennis courts are filled with campers improving their tennis skills by participating in a number of activities specifically designed for their individual benefit. These activities take place in a stimulating and friendly environment with dedicated and experienced instructors and coaches, all individually selected by our well-known Tennis Camp Director, Rob Lapides.
The tennis program is designed to fit the campers, instead of requiring the campers to fit the program. Depending on the mix of ages, skill levels, and tennis objectives of the children, the program is modified to enable each camper to gain the most tennis benefit possible. This is accomplished through a combination of instruction, training, games, and competitive activities designed to keep each camper fully engaged and excited about improving their tennis skills. Throughout each camp week activities focus on specific technique and mechanics, movement, fitness, rules and conduct, match play, tactics and strategy, and mental aspects of the game. This is accomplished with focused drilling as well as combined tennis games and competitions.
For our younger campers and those with less experience, we utilize the United States Tennis Association (USTA) QuickStart method of specially designed mini courts, balls, and teaching aids to help children master basic tennis form without the need to struggle with full scale equipment on an overwhelming court area.
To enable our campers to gain the most tennis benefit, the Tennis Camp does set limits on the number of campers it will accept each week. The earlier you register, the more likely you will be able to select the Tennis Camp program you most desire.
