Hear the distant tune of the Bellagio fountain in Las Vegas? Or perhaps the echo of a bird's call swooping through the Grand Canyon? That’s California calling, travellers. And she’s calling for you. Begin this epic west coast wander in La La Land, before moving on to Sin City for three days of wicked shenanigans. Catch up on slumber whilst driving to Mariposa, where we’ll regenerate in Yosemite National Park amongst nature at its best. When you’ve finished getting your Yogi Bear on, it’s time to hit the home of Californian wine: Napa Valley. Pinot or Sav Blanc? It’s your call. Finally, end the adventure in San Fran with a flower in your hair.
Itinerary
Day 1: Los Angeles, California to Las Vegas, Nevada
Assemble the wolf pack as we drive along the Mojave desert to our first stop: Las Vegas. Postcards home write of buffets, blackjack and the Bellagio, but few mention the ridiculous antics you can only get up to in Sin City. Fancier than normal pools, 5am burgers in your hotel and party buses? We did say this was Vegas. Hit The Strip aboard our party bus and let Vegas show you its colours. Remember, what happens here...
Day 2: Las Vegas
G-rated Vegas sounds like an oxymoron, but there's plenty of family-friendly options from indoor skydiving to roller coasters atop needle-pin buildings. Today, Vegas is your oyster, and there's a good chance it will be battered and deep fried. Reach new heights with an optional helicopter flight above The Strip, or recline in your seat as you watch the world go by from the Observation Wheel.
Day 3: Las Vegas (day trip to Grand Canyon)
Have a break from The Strip with some fresh air and open spaces. And by open, we mean grand. And by spaces, we mean canyon. The seriously jaw-dropping view around the canyon rim or from the (optional) chopper is well worth the journey along Route 66. Or just relish in a food coma from Big Mama's Rib Shack. You'll drool over both.
Day 4: Las Vegas to Yosemite National Park region, California
Lost track of time last night? Swap stories of your Vegas antics as we drive from the desert to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and our gateway to Yosemite National Park.
Day 5: Yosemite National Park
There's not enough flowery adjectives to describe the beauty of Yosemite Valley. It doesn't have honey badgers, but it does have bears, coyotes and golden eagles that are badass in their own right. Hike to Vernal Falls, ride or take the free shuttle to explore the real-world equivalent of Narnia. There's always the Ansel Adams Gallery if you need photography pointers.
Day 6: Yosemite to Napa Valley
The home of Californian wine is well worth the ride - says 3.3 million people coming here every year. Luckily you've got an included wine tasting.
Day 7: Napa Valley to San Francisco
Just like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, the reward of walking on the Golden Gate bridge awaits us as we arrive in the liberal city of San Francisco. Stop in Sausalito en route to San Francisco before our city tour of heavyweights: Golden Gate Bridge, Haight-Ashbury, Painted Ladies, Chinatown, North Beach and Fisherman's Wharf.
