Trashy Bags was formed in 2007 in response to the solid waste disposal problem in Accra, Ghana by sewing attractive and fashionable bags and gifts from used water and ice cream sachets (in Ghana, they drink water out of plastic bags!) collected from the city streets.
The company is a vibrant one, and we currently have volunteers working on various projects, including a low-income housing initiative, a youth job-training initiative, and an environmental education project. We currently employ 60 tailors and seamstresses, and have four volunteers working on-site.
We would welcome more-- our volunteers do fantastic work - and can provide a program which includes pre-departure support, lodging with water, electricity, and air conditioning, and on-site volunteer support.
