During your first week you'll be taken to see a Tango Show. Tango shows include both singing and dancing and take place in local theatres. Currently, “Homero Manzi” and "La Esquina Balcarce" are both popular shows which interpret the story and history of Tango from its early beginnings to date. Your dance lesson schedule will allow plenty of time for sightseeing and absorbing the experience of being in Argentina.
DANCE COURSE OVERVIEW:
During your placement you'll have lessons with a private tango teacher, who will tailor your programme to your individual level of expertise. Your instructors (Mel and Dalilah) regularly teach in various places throughout Buenos Aires. If you're a woman you'll learn with Mel and men will have lessons with Dalilah. The lessons scheduled for you are:
- Three private tango classes per week, each lasting one and a half hours. These will usually be taken in the afternoons but there will be some flexibility, depending on your teacher’s schedule.
- One group class per week (lasting one and a half hours). All of your teacher’s present students will get together for this class. If, at any time, your teacher doesn’t have many other students, then this class will be an additional private lesson instead.
- One Milonga per week at "La Catedra". A Milonga is an open Tango party where all levels mix together. People from all over come to this weekly social event, where everyone dances together and continually change couple - all lots of fun! Your teacher will attend the Milonga at La Catedra every Tuesday. You may chose to go any day of the week should you want to. La Catedra is located close to your accommodation.
ACCOMMODATION:
There are two choices for accommodation in Buenos Aires. Depending on your preferences you can either stay in the modern hostel with other volunteers, in the young and trendy neighbourhood of Palermo, or, if you would prefer a more cultural experience, you can be placed with a host family and be fluent in Spanish is no time!
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO WHILE ON THIS PROJECT:
Add to your travel experience in Argentina by doing some additional exciting activities - you never know, you could develop a passion for Latin American dance, or learn a new skill!
- Salsa Courses: Salsa music is a synthesis of European and African musical influences that was born in Cuba. You’ll learn from a Cuban teacher who will tailor lessons to suit your level, even totally beginners.
- Spanish Language Courses: You can take a few hours of private lessons a week at the same time as doing your project. You'll be amazed at how much it will add to your enjoyment during your stay.
This project can also be combined with any of our other projects in Buenos Aires, or you could even do a second project in a different region of the country, thus doubling your adventure and enjoyment!.
