Gain valuable international veterinary work experience by assisting the vets and staff. The focus is on animal health and care. During your internship, you'll work with domestic pets and farm animals – a great opportunity to closely observe and learn from the local veterinarians. You may also get the opportunity to assist with minor procedures and you also generally assist the staff on their daily routines.

If opportunities arise while you're there, you may get a chance to travel with the vets out to farms to treat any animals in need. These could include cattle, goats, chickens, pigs, and domestic pets as well. You'll assist the vets in animal handling, disease identification, pregnancy diagnosis and routine vaccinations. The practice is well established, with between 4 and 6 qualified vets who all speak English. You'll gain valuable international veterinary work experience by assisting the vets and staff.

The patients at the hospital include dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, cows and calves, goats, and many more species.

Accommodation

Your accommodation during your internship has been specially organised to accommodate elective students on the programme. It is approximately 15 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from the capital city of Colombo. One of the project members will warmly welcome you on your arrival at the airport and will show you around and introduce you to everyone.

FREE Wi-Fi is available in the accommodation. There are many outdoor and indoor entertainment activities around this area such as sandy beaches, zoo, parks, theatres, cinemas, restaurants (KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut in case you miss home food) , pubs and etc. The location is easy reach by means of trains, buses and taxis should you wish to go further afield during the weekend.

FOOD: Three meals a day will be provided. The menus are designed specially with a wide range of Sri-Lankan, Asian and a mixture of Western food.
