What will you do?
Your mornings will normally be spent helping to paint a classroom or dormitory at a poor local deaf school in either the coastal capital city Accra or the peaceful Akuapem Hills.
Your work greatly improves the lives of local D/deaf students. You don't need any previous experience. Work is allocated according to volunteers' preferences and skills and VoluntEars provides all materials and guidance.
Your afternoons will normally be spent doing a mix of activities including:
- Educational games & fun activities with local D/deaf students
- Ghanaian sign language class
- Cooking class (learn how to make local delights like "red red" and "Fufu"!)
- Visit one of Africa's biggest bead markets!
- Learning African Drumming
- Relaxing on unspoilt sandy beaches
And at the weekend you will:
- Spot wild African elephants at Kakum National Park and walk along a canopy walkway high up in the jungle
- Visit a stilt village on the coast
We fit a huge amount into your trip (and this is all included - no nasty surprises after arriving!) but it's all carefully planned so nothing ever feels rushed and you always have time to relax and ask our friendly staff all about the various places we visit.
